The client was experiencing revenue leakage and billing reconciliation errors due to fragmented webhook listeners and hardcoded plan logic across multiple repositories.
System Architecture & Decisions
To solve this without creating maintenance overhead or operational fragility, we implemented the following technical pillars:
PostgreSQL database utilizing Row-Level Security (RLS) and strict transactional boundaries for customer balances and invoices.
Idempotent Stripe webhook receiver queue backed by Redis to prevent duplicate credit assignments during network retries.
Feature flags and entitlement caching layer evaluating customer plan permissions in under 2ms per API request.
Self-serve customer billing portal built into the Next.js application with automatic PDF invoice generation.
